Here are some photos of the FW loop, hanging from 7 tall redwood trees in my yard. The top horizontal run of the loop is approx 120 ft up, the bottom perhaps 25 ft off ground. I used 550 ft of #10 stranded, insulated wire, and marine (sailboat) pulleys, so they hold up in the wx. I made halyards at all attachment points, so when the loop breaks, which it will every few years, I can gently lower the pulleys and re-string the loop after making a repair splice. Every 3 or 4 years I must have a tree trimmer go up at lesat 4 trees to trim away branches so the RF will not start fires! I feed the loop with "450 ohm" window line, about 1/3 way up the corner nearest my shack. This method of feed is supposed to provide a combo of horiz and vert radiation. I use now a commercial tuner, the balanced tuner from Palstar. In the past I used my own HB style balanced tuner, which sometimes arced or got very warm. My Xcvr is the Icom IC-756 ProIII and the amp is an Alpha 99. The photos show me, with the feedpoint of the loop behind me, one corner of the loop, way down around 10 ft above the ground, one shot of the feedpoint, and one shot of the top horizontal run. I had to bend the loop back on itself, since my lot is not large enough to hold the loop in a linear layout. I also use 3 Beverage RX antennas, although the longest one is only about 400 ft long. I just completed building a 5 ft/side square "magnetic" rx loop, which I plan to mount on a small rotator. I mix the output of the RX loop, after a pre-amp, with one of the Bev antennas, to minimize the local noise, which can get up to S9 here at times. I'm looking forward to the new 160 DX season. 73 and DSW, John
